Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the holding of a consultative meeting including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in the capital, Islamabad, today, to discuss developments in the situation in the region and efforts to reduce the escalation.
Dar explained, in a statement published on the X platform, that Badr Abdel Ati, his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Islamabad during the period from March 29 to 30, to participate in the consultations.
The foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss a group of regional issues, foremost among which are efforts aimed at calming escalating tensions and pushing towards political solutions.
Hosting negotiations aimed at ending the war in the Middle East
In a related context, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif expressed his country’s readiness to host negotiations aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, noting that holding these discussions depends on the approval of both the United States and Iran.
The past few days also witnessed intense contacts between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and his Pakistani and Turkish counterparts, during which visions were exchanged regarding the dangerous military escalation in the region, and ways to contain the crisis were discussed.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf confirmed that these contacts dealt with joint efforts to launch a direct negotiating path between the United States and Iran, while stressing the importance of giving priority to diplomatic solutions to avoid the region sliding into further tension and chaos.
The ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation during the coming period, in support of de-escalation efforts, and to work to prevent the expansion of the conflict, thus contributing to enhancing regional stability.
