The activities of the 15th International Conference of the Arab Beekeepers Union kicked off this morning in Sharm El-Sheikh, with unprecedented participation from 27 countries from various continents of the world, in the largest international gathering specialized in beekeeping and honey making in the Arab region.
The opening took place in the presence of Major General Dr. Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, Dr. Alaa Azouz, Head of the Agricultural Extension Sector at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, representing the Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk, and Fathi Bukhiri, President of the Arab Beekeepers Union, in addition to leaders of the agricultural sector in Egypt, participating international dignitaries, and the President of the International Epimondia Organization.
Broad participation of agricultural leaders in Egypt
The opening witnessed the presence of a group of the most prominent leaders of agricultural institutions, including:
Dr. El-Sayed Khalifa, Head of the Agricultural Syndicate and President of the African Agricultural Union, representing the ACSAD organization, and professors and experts from the Agricultural Research Center and Egyptian universities.
Official delegations from all Arab countries also participated, along with delegations from China – Russia – India – Uzbekistan – the United States – Canada – Brazil – Italy – Germany – Poland – Slovenia and other major countries in the global bee industry.
Fathi Beheiry, President of the Arab Beekeepers Union, had received the participating delegations, stressing that the current version is the largest and strongest since the founding of the Union in 1994, noting that this development comes as a result of the Union’s policy during the last five years of international openness, exchange of knowledge, and transfer of modern technology.
He said that this conference has truly become an international event par excellence, and is no longer limited to the Arab region, but rather a global station that witnesses a wide presence of major powers in this sector.
The event includes a scientific conference headed by the great scientist Dr. Mohamed Omar, professor of beekeeping at Assiut University, and the membership of a group of senior Egyptian scientists.
The conference discusses the latest research in beekeeping, honey quality, genetic improvement, diseases, and production technology, in addition to specialized workshops in the sensory tasting of honey, extracting bee venom, and other delicate fields in the bee industry.
The conference includes an international exhibition that includes more than 30 exhibitors from Egyptian honey producers and beekeeper supplies companies, to be a live window through which the world can see the quality and excellence of Egyptian honey.
The exhibition directly supports the plan to develop Egyptian honey exports and maintain Egypt’s leadership in exporting live bee packages to global markets.
With this great momentum of international and scientific participation, the conference consolidates Egypt’s position as a pivotal country in the honey industry and beekeeping, and strengthens its position on the production and export map, in an event described as the most important and largest in the history of the Union for 30 years.
