His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Mark, is scheduled to preside over the Christmas Mass on the evening of January 6, 2026, inside the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital, with the participation of a number of church bishops.

Christmas pramon date 2026
The 2026 Christmas Paramon falls on Tuesday, January 6, which is the day immediately before the holiday and is designated for spiritual preparation.
The Church clarifies that Bramon may extend for two or three days in some cases. If the holiday falls on a Sunday or Saturday, which are two days on which intermittent fasting is not performed and no prayers are held, then intermittent fasting is performed on the previous day, which is Friday.
In this case, the parmon becomes two days if the Eid falls on a Sunday, or three days if it falls on a Monday, while abstaining from eating fish for the duration of the parmon, while intermittent fasting is limited to Friday only.
However, if Christmas falls on any day other than Sunday or Monday, then it is only one day of pramon.
Pramon Christmas rituals 2026
The word paramon is of Greek origin and means extreme readiness. This term is given to the day before Christmas and Epiphany. Paramon fasts intermittently until sunset, during which prayers are performed according to the usual annual ritual, with all the hours of Agpeya recited until twelve o’clock, without allowing the eating of fish.
Christmas time
The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on the 29th of Kiahk every year. Previously, this date fell on December 25th, but the amendment of the Gregorian calendar in the sixteenth century led to it moving to currently fall on January 7th.
Details of the Christmas celebration
Christmas is considered the second greatest Christian holiday after Resurrection, as it commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. While some churches celebrate the holiday on December 25, churches that follow the Julian calendar celebrate it on the evening of January 6 and the day of January 7, due to the time difference of 13 days between the two calendars.
The Bible does not specify an exact date for the birth of Jesus Christ, but the Church Fathers approved this date since the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, so that it has become fixed in church tradition until today.
