The US Southern Command said, in a statement published through its official account on the “X” platform, that the operation was carried out on December 29 under the direction of US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, through the Joint Task Force Southern Arrow.
The statement explained that intelligence information confirmed that the ship was following known drug smuggling routes in the eastern Pacific Ocean, and was directly involved in illicit drug trafficking activities.
The strike resulted in the killing of two people, described as drug smugglers linked to terrorism, while the command confirmed that no members of the US military forces were injured during the operation.
