US officials told the Washington Post that US President Donald Trump has backed off from launching a strike against Iran, noting that the decision came as a result of fears of a “heavy price” and potential consequences, in addition to pressure from US allies in the Middle East.
The officials stressed that “all options are still on the table,” and that Trump may reconsider launching a strike against Iran within two or three weeks.
The White House spokeswoman said on Saturday evening that no one knows what President Donald Trump will do regarding Iran except the president himself, stressing that the president has kept many options on the table in dealing with Tehran.
The newspaper reported, citing an informed source, that the Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and the White House Chief of Staff stressed the need to be cautious before making any decision to strike Iran.
