Hebrew media reported that Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and Chief of Staff of the occupation army, Eyal Zamir, were summoned to a special session to be held today, Tuesday, in light of the escalation of public disagreements between them.
After asking Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz to re-examine the details of the investigation conducted by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, the latter issued a statement condemning the minister and his decision to question the investigation, according to Hebrew media.
The statement stated: The Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, was informed through the media of the operations that the Minister of Defense plans to carry out with regard to the examination team that the Chief of Staff established upon assuming his position, at a time when the Chief of Staff is present in a surprise exercise of the General Staff in the Golan Heights sector. The Torgman team’s report was defined from the beginning for the internal use of the Chief of Staff, with the aim of examining the quality of the investigations and drawing lessons in an integrated manner in the Israeli army, and not for political use.
The statement added: The decision to question the report, which was written by 12 major generals and brigadier generals over a period of seven months, and which was approved by the Army Commander and presented to the minister personally, raises astonishment. The committee heard hundreds of testimonies, examined in depth and implemented a professional process. The alternative examination for thirty days by the security system supervisor, without prejudice to his dignity, is not relevant to the matter.
Crisis in Israel due to October 7
The Israeli Chief of Staff was criticized for the investigation and dismissal of senior leaders in the occupation army for their role in the monitoring that led to October 7, 2023. He faced objections within the Israeli army as well as from Defense Minister Israel Katz, who announced that he had asked the security system monitor to formulate a recommendation with equal standards regarding drawing personal conclusions.
