Today, Wednesday, the Cairo Economic Court issues its ruling against festivals singer Issam Sasa, accusing him of appropriating the melody of the song “Ala Bali” by artist Sherine Abdel Wahab, and using it “without permission from the rights holders.”

This trial comes after an official report submitted by lawyer Sameh Qenawy to the Public Prosecutor, in his capacity as an agent for the composer Wael Mohamed, in which he accused Sasa of using a melody owned by his client and exploiting it unlawfully, which prompted the competent authorities to refer the file to the Economic Court for consideration.

The report explained that the composer Wael Mohamed is the owner of the melody of the song I Love Between Me and Myself, which was sung by Sherine Abdel Wahab in her 2005 album entitled I Must Live, and that he had previously legally waived to her the right to exploit the melody. However, Issam Sasa, according to what was stated in the report, reused the same melody in a festival entitled It’s All Different, State of Emergency in 2021, and published it through his accounts on social media platforms, making financial profits in violation of the Intellectual Property Protection Law.
