The Syrian army said on Saturday that it had ended combing operations in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, in a move indicating its control of the neighborhood after it was taken out of the hands of Kurdish fighters.

Tensions in Syria

The Syrian army had previously announced its intention to advance, on Friday, to the last neighborhood in Aleppo that was controlled by Kurdish forces, after Kurdish groups there rejected a government demand to withdraw their fighters under a ceasefire agreement.

The curfew in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo came into effect yesterday in light of the escalation of clashes between the Syrian army forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and the continued security tension in the region, according to media reports.

The Syrian army, in a statement carried by the Syrian News Agency, called on the people of the neighborhood to immediately evacuate five sites that it said were being used as starting points for bombing the neighborhoods of the city of Aleppo by SDF forces and members of the PKK organization. The statement stressed the necessity of evacuating the designated areas in order to preserve the safety of civilians, warning against targeting them as military sites.
