Ali Abu Dashish, an expert in Egyptian antiquities, confirmed that the statue of Queen Nefertiti’s head is not just a silent artifact, but rather represents a unique cultural document that reflects the genius of ancient Egyptian art, the power of the state, and the philosophy of beauty that preceded its time by thousands of years.
Archaeological expert: The statue of Queen Nefertiti’s head represents a unique cultural document
Abu Dashish explained in exclusive statements to Cairo 24 that the secret of the continuing global fascination with this statue is due to the amazing artistic precision executed by the royal example Thutmose, pointing out that the golden proportions and perfect symmetry in the facial features, along with the magnificence of the neck and the precision of the details of the crown and ears, made Nefertiti’s head a global standard of beauty throughout the ages.
The antiquities expert added that the importance of the statue is not limited to its artistic value, but rather extends to its historical and political dimensions, as Nefertiti embodies the role of the “co-ruler” during the Amarna period, one of the most complex periods in ancient Egyptian history, pointing out that the blue crown with which she appears in the statue reflects her political and religious influence, as she was depicted in the inscriptions exercising full royal roles.
Regarding the presence of the statue outside Egypt, Abu Dashish indicated that its stay inside the Berlin Museum was the result of historical circumstances dating back to 1912, during the excavations at Tell el-Amarna, where – according to historical accounts – the true value of the piece was hidden during the process of dividing the antiquities, which led to its exit from Egypt in an unfair manner.
He stressed that the demand for the return of Nefertiti’s head represents an issue of cultural justice before it is an archaeological demand, stressing that its natural place is inside the Grand Egyptian Museum or in its original homeland at Amarna, because of the cultural symbolism it carries that reflects the identity and history of the Egyptian people.
He concluded his statements by emphasizing that restoring the statue does not only mean retrieving a unique artifact, but rather represents the restoration of an authentic part of the Egyptian spirit, which continues to inspire the world today.
