The result of the match between Esperance and Sun Downs in the first leg of the African Champions League semi-final was in favor of the South African team, after the match was decided with a clean goal, in the match that was held at Hammadi Al-Aqrabi Stadium in Brades.

Esperance almost opened the scoring in the 33rd minute of the first half, after Florian Danho’s shot rebounded off the post.

In the 51st minute of the second half, Sun Downs scored the only goal of the match through Brian Lyon, after a pass from Thapelo Morena.

Esperance scored the equalizer in the 65th minute through Abou Bakr Traoré, before the Algerian referee of the match, Mustafa Ghorbal, intervened and returned to the VAR technology, deciding to cancel the goal.

Kekana, the Sun Downs player, who wears shirt number 20, was sent off in the 84th minute, after violently interfering with the Esperance player.

The hosts tried to equalize during the remaining minutes, but Sun Downs’ defense remained solid, and the match ended with the South African team winning 1-0.

The date of the return match

The return match between Esperance and Sun Downs in the CAF Champions League semi-finals is scheduled to take place next Friday, April 17, at 3:00 pm Cairo time, and 4:00 pm Saudi Arabia time, on the grounds of Loftus Versfeld Stadium in South Africa.
