Journalist Ahmed Musa said: American President Donald Trump expressed his surprise at the Renaissance Dam project, considering that it did not bring any real benefit to Ethiopia, and was being used as a political pressure card, rather than a development project.
Moussa explained, during his presentation of the “On My Responsibility” program broadcast on Sada El Balad channel, that Trump stated that the United States contributed to financing the dam, while holding the democratic administrations responsible for that, noting that this financing was a reason for the complexity of the crisis and the lack of progress during the rule of US President Joe Biden.
Ahmed Musa pointed out that the construction of the dam coincided with the events of 2011 in Egypt, while Ethiopia was working to implement the project with American support, stressing that the current American intervention aims to reach a fair agreement that preserves Egypt’s water rights.
Ahmed Moussa confirmed that President Trump shows great admiration for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and described him as a “great leader,” pointing out that the relationship between the two presidents began from their first meeting before Trump officially assumed the presidency.
He added that Trump praised Egypt’s pivotal role in regional issues, most notably the Gaza file, stressing that Egypt is an essential element in the stability of the region, and that no major solutions can be achieved without an active Egyptian role.
