A group of doctors revealed that knee cracking without pain is often normal, while there are some cases that call for concern.

Causes of knee cracking

According to what was published by The Sun website, there are some cases that result in knee cracking, as follows:

• Bone or cartilage rubbing against each other.

• Air bubbles in or around the knee joint.

But if the cracking is accompanied by pain, swelling, or loss of joint movement, it may indicate more serious problems, such as:

• Cartilage damage.

• Ligament rupture.

• Knee arthritis.

To relieve the symptoms of inflammation, doctors recommend:

• Losing weight to relieve pressure on the joint.

• Treatment with hot or cold compresses alternately.

• Taking prescription anti-inflammatory medications, or resorting to physical therapy under the supervision of a specialist doctor.

Experts pointed out the need to consult a doctor as soon as any persistent pain or loss of knee movement appears to avoid worsening problems.
