The Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gibran, announced today, Wednesday, the approval and start of disbursing the Christmas grant to irregular workers, as part of the periodic grants disbursed on official and religious occasions, with a total of 299 million and 286 thousand pounds, from which 199,524 irregular workers registered with the Ministry of Labor will benefit, in all 27 governorates of the Republic.
The Minister explained that the disbursement of the grant from the Central Account for the Care of Irregular Workers of the Ministry comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership, and within the framework of the social protection system adopted by the Egyptian state to support the groups most cared for, led by irregular workers, and to provide a comprehensive social and health care umbrella for them, in a way that achieves living and social stability.

Minister of Labor Mohamed Gibran said that the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, pays unprecedented attention to irregular labor, as it is an essential partner in the construction and development process, noting that the irregular labor grant is disbursed on 6 occasions annually, which are: Christmas, the holy month of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Labor Day, and the Prophet’s Birthday.
The minister added that the value of the grant witnessed a historic jump, as it was 500 pounds, and then it was decided to raise it to 1,500 pounds by a decision of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during the Labor Day celebrations, in a step that reflects the political leadership’s keenness to improve the standard of living of irregular workers, and reduce their living burdens in light of the economic changes.
Gibran stressed that the Ministry of Labor continues to expand the base of beneficiaries, update databases, and strengthen disbursement mechanisms, to ensure that support reaches those who deserve it in all transparency, stressing that the irregular employment file receives direct and periodic follow-up by the political leadership.
