Major General Ashraf El-Gindy, Governor of Gharbia, discussed the mechanisms for dealing systematically and humanely with the phenomenon of stray dogs, and developing sustainable solutions that achieve a balance between protecting citizens and applying animal welfare standards. This comes within the framework of a rapid response to citizens’ daily complaints about the increasing number of stray dogs, and Gharbia Governorate’s keenness to achieve a balance between preserving the safety of citizens and applying animal welfare standards.
The Governor of Gharbia discussed the formation of specialized work teams that include qualified veterinarians and trained dog catchers, to work according to scientific and humanitarian principles that take into account the rules of animal welfare, while starting to take the necessary executive measures to establish shelter centers designated for stray dogs, including the process of sterilization, veterinary care after surgery, and then their return.
The Governor of Gharbia launches the first steps to establish shelter centers for stray dogs at the governorate level
The Directorate of Veterinary Medicine, in coordination with the governorate, announced the allocation of two plots of land in the villages of Sindbast and Al-Gharib in the Zefta Center, to establish model shelter centers for stray dogs, provided that these centers are a nucleus to serve all the centers and cities of the Gharbia Governorate, and not a limited geographical scope, within the framework of a comprehensive vision that aims to control the phenomenon at the level of the entire governorate.
Major General Ashraf El Gendy, Governor of Gharbia, confirmed that the governorate deals with the issue of stray dogs with an integrated scientific approach that primarily takes into account the safety of citizens, and at the same time fully adheres to animal welfare standards, stressing that the Egyptian state has put in place clear legislation regulating this file, and that the governorate is committed to implementing the law with precision and firmness without any random practices.
The Governor of Gharbia added that this step represents a real beginning to address one of the issues that affect the daily lives of citizens, stressing that the governorate will spare no effort in supporting the Veterinary Medicine Directorate and providing the necessary capabilities for the success of the shelter and sterilization system, in order to achieve a safe and stable environment within cities and villages, and reflects the state’s interest in putting humans at the top of its priorities while respecting the rights of living creatures.
For her part, Dr. Nima Arif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Veterinary Medicine in Gharbia, explained that the Directorate has already begun to take executive measures and prepare the necessary work teams, in preparation for the start of work in the centers as soon as the preparations are completed, stressing full commitment to applying animal welfare standards and providing the necessary veterinary care for dogs inside the shelter centers, in a way that ensures achieving the desired goals on sound scientific and legal foundations.
