The Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the French company Alstom, is preparing to begin official operation of the project Monorail east of Cairo (The Capital) will receive passengers during the month of next March, in a step that represents a new qualitative leap in the modern mass transportation system.
This development comes after the completion of a large part of the implementation and preparation work, in preparation for the project to enter service for citizens, which will contribute to reducing traffic congestion and linking the new urban communities in eastern Cairo with safe and advanced means of transportation.
Sources had previously revealed to Cairo 24 that the decision to postpone the operation Monorail From the beginning of this January, this came as a result of the non-completion of the trial operation work for all stages of the project, and the keenness of the concerned authorities to ensure technical and operational readiness before receiving passengers.
Operating time of the capital monorail with passengers
The sources explained that the new date for operation Monorail east of Cairo It was set for the end of the first quarter of 2026, instead of the beginning of January as previously announced, in order to ensure the completion of final tests and achieve the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency.
The monorail project in East Cairo is considered one of the most important smart transportation projects in Egypt, as it connects a number of axes and vital areas, and reflects the state’s trend towards relying on environmentally friendly mass transportation, which contributes to improving the quality of life for citizens and supporting sustainable urban development.

The Capital Monorail route… from Nasr City to the New Capital
Line extends Capital Monorail From the Stadium Station in Nasr City to the command and control center in the New Administrative Capital, it is 56.5 km long and includes 22 main stations, making it one of the most important modern transportation arteries linking Greater Cairo and the New Administrative Capital.
The project is being implemented through the Alstom – Orascom – Arab Contractors alliance, within the dual monorail system east and west of the Nile, with a total length of about 100 km and 35 stations, making it one of the longest monorail systems in the Middle East.
Self-driving monorail with international standards

The design speed of the monorail reaches 90 km/hour, while the actual operational speed is about 120 km/hour, making it a fast and efficient means of transportation that contributes to reducing travel time between the outskirts of Greater Cairo to only about 45 minutes.
