Engineer Mohamed Fouad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture in Luxor Governorate, revealed the truth about the spread of an insect TermitesHe explained that this insect is naturally found in mountainous areas and lives underground at depths of up to 25 metres. It feeds on cellulose found in wood and some types of fabrics.
Luxor Agriculture: The collapsed houses are dilapidated and termites have nothing to do with their collapse
Muhammad Fouad explained, during television statements, that termites attack homes built of wood, and do not affect homes built of mud brick or concrete, noting that wooden homes that are exposed to infestation may turn, over time, into facilities threatened with collapse.
Mohamed Fouad confirmed that termite control is carried out throughout the year, pointing out that the insect is not responsible for the houses that recently collapsed in some villages of Luxor, explaining that there are other factors behind the collapse of these houses, most notably dilapidation and the age of construction.
Mohamed Fouad pointed out that the competent authorities deal quickly with any reports related to the appearance of termites, explaining that the insect emerges from under the ground, and therefore control efforts are concentrated directly under the houses, calling on citizens to quickly communicate with agricultural associations in the event of suspicion of the presence of termites under their homes, to take the necessary preventive measures, stressing that the collapsed houses in Luxor were dilapidated and termites had nothing to do with their collapse.
