The British newspaper The Guardian revealed that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer received an offer from a high-ranking official in the administration of US President Donald Trump to join the peace council for the Gaza Strip, which was established within the arrangements of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement.

According to the newspaper, a senior Trump administration official asked Starmer to join the council, noting that he is expected to accept the offer, even though he has not received an official invitation yet, as consultations continue regarding the final composition of the council.

The Guardian explained that Starmer succeeded in building a good relationship with the US President, despite the differences between them, especially regarding the United Kingdom’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine last year.

It is expected that the Peace Council will temporarily supervise the administration of the Gaza Strip, in addition to responsibility for its reconstruction, and will include world leaders.

The newspaper pointed out that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was initially expected to join the council, which Trump himself is scheduled to chair, after Blair considered that the American plans represented the best opportunity to end two years of war, misery and suffering.
However, Blair, who still faces sharp criticism over his role in the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, was quietly dropped after some Middle Eastern countries objected to his participation. Instead, he is expected to join a separate executive council that includes Trump advisers, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
