The Breast Cancer Hospital affiliated with the National Cancer Institute – Cairo University received, over the course of two days, a delegation of doctors and oncology specialists from the Republic of Kenya, within the framework of supporting international cooperation and exchanging experiences in the field of breast cancer patient care. The visit took place in cooperation with the Egyptian Cancer Society.
The visit program included interactive scientific sessions based on discussing clinical cases, where hospital experts reviewed the approved integrated care model, which is based on value-based care and treatment decision-making through a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the provision of high-quality health service focused on the patient’s needs.
In this context, Dr. Imad Shash, Director of the Breast Cancer Hospital, said: We are proud to welcome our colleagues from Kenya to the Breast Cancer Hospital, as this visit represents a true model for exchanging practical experiences based on clinical reality. During the program, we focused on how to make therapeutic decisions within a multidisciplinary team, and place the patient at the heart of the care system, which directly improves therapeutic outcomes and quality of life.
For her part, Dr. Dalia Qadri, Director General of the National Cancer Institute Hospitals, confirmed that this visit reflects the development of the work system within the Institute’s hospitals, saying: International scientific visits represent an important opportunity to review the development that has been achieved in the organizational structure and workflow within the Institute’s hospitals. We believe that exchanging successful experiences, especially in areas such as patient guidance and service integration, contributes to improving the level of health care provided to oncology patients.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Moati Samra, Dean of the National Cancer Institute – Cairo University, welcomed the visiting delegation, emphasizing the academic and pioneering role of the Institute. He said: The National Cancer Institute is keen to strengthen its role as a regional reference center in oncology treatment, medical education, and capacity building. This visit comes within the framework of the Institute’s vision to build bridges of cooperation with sister medical institutions in Africa, thus contributing to improving cancer care at the regional level.
The visit included discussion of a number of main topics, including:
Value-added care model at the Breast Cancer Hospital
Complexities of therapeutic decision making in breast cancer
The role of the multidisciplinary team in improving therapeutic outcomes
Patient navigation and post-treatment care programmes
Health education and psychological and social support
Field trips to review the workflow and improve the patient journey
The National Cancer Institute appreciates the active participation of the Kenyan delegation, the efforts of faculty members and medical and administrative teams, the supportive role of partners, and the ongoing cooperation with the Egyptian Cancer Society, stressing its commitment to continuing scientific cooperation and exchanging experiences in the interest of cancer patients.
