The Egyptian sports street hopes for the success of the basketball team, in exploiting the workers of the field and the public, and achieving positive results that bring it a new step closer to qualifying for the 2027 World Cup finals, and continuing the honorable presence of Egyptian basketball on the international scene.
The basketball team begins the journey of the second window of the World Cup basketball qualifiers
This comes when the Burj Al Arab Hall in Alexandria hosts the competitions of the second window of the African qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, during the period from February 26 to next March 1, in a prominent continental event that reflects the growing confidence in Egypt’s organizational ability and readiness to host major tournaments.
The second window competitions will be held within the second and fourth groups, as the group in which the basketball team is present includes the teams of Angola, Uganda and Mali, in strong confrontations to decide the qualification cards for the next stage.
The qualifying system stipulates that the top three finishers from each of the four first stage groups qualify for the second and final stage of the qualifiers, which gives all teams a strong opportunity to compete until the final rounds.
The basketball team has an honorable record at the global level, as it participated in the last edition of the 2023 Basketball World Cup, which was held in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. The Pharaohs succeeded in finishing the tournament in twentieth place globally, as the second best African team in the World Cup, behind the South Sudan team.
As part of preparations for the second window, the Basketball Association decided to stop local league competitions, as the suspension period extends from February 26 to March 1, 2026, with local competitions resuming as of March 8, 2026, according to what was approved during the last Board of Directors meeting.
