Dakahlia Governorate’s decisions regarding regulating the operation of taxis entered the stage of actual implementation, following the end of the deadline set for calibrating meters according to the new tariff, which set 15 pounds to open the meter and 3.5 pounds per kilometer, as part of efforts to control the transportation system and prevent exploitation of citizens.

The streets of Mansoura and a number of centers witnessed intensive traffic campaigns aimed at ensuring that drivers adhered to operating the meter according to the announced tariff, as a number of cars were examined and legal measures were taken against violators.

Intensive campaigns after the meter calibration deadline expires

Field trips observed a noticeable commitment from some drivers to apply the new tariff, especially in vital areas, while some complaints still persist regarding refusal to operate the meter at certain times, or attempts to impose a higher price, which campaigns are working to confront decisively.

For their part, a number of taxi drivers expressed reservations about the current tariff, noting that it is not commensurate with the high operating costs. However, they affirmed their commitment to it in order to avoid the penalties announced by the governorate.

Dakahlia Governorate confirmed the continuation of daily campaigns without tolerance, with immediate fines being imposed on violators, which may amount to stopping the car from operating or canceling the license in the event of a repeat violation, stressing that protecting the rights of citizens is a top priority.

It also called on citizens to report any violations through the central operations room, which operates around the clock, to ensure that complaints are quickly dealt with and that any violations are caught in a timely manner.

The governorate relies on concerted efforts between executive agencies and citizens to achieve full discipline in the taxi system, ensuring the provision of fair and safe service to all.
