The Ministry of Health and Population stressed the need to be careful for patients with pulmonary obstruction during the holy month of Ramadan, stressing that the safety of patients comes first, and that fasting must be stopped immediately and the treating physician should be consulted if any symptoms appear that indicate a deterioration in the health condition.
Health issues a warning to patients with pulmonary obstruction during fasting
The Ministry explained, in an awareness publication, that patients with pulmonary obstruction must carefully monitor their condition while fasting, especially with the possibility of being exposed to severe relapses as a result of abstaining from fluids or changing medication schedules, which may lead to worsening respiratory symptoms.
The Ministry of Health and Population indicated that one of the most prominent symptoms that require immediate cessation of fasting and seeking urgent medical advice is the feeling of severe difficulty in breathing, which may indicate a severe relapse, in addition to an increase in phlegm or a change in its color, which may reflect the presence of an infection or inflammation of the respiratory system.
The Ministry also warned that feeling severe dizziness or fainting are warning signs that should not be ignored, stressing that continuing fasting with these symptoms may expose the patient to serious complications.
The Ministry stressed the importance of pulmonary obstruction patients adhering to the treatment plan prescribed by the specialist doctor, and not adjusting the doses or timing of medications without medical advice, while making sure to get sufficient rest and avoid strenuous physical exertion.
The Ministry of Health and Population concluded its statement by emphasizing that the decision to fast for patients with chronic diseases, including pulmonary obstruction patients, must be made in consultation with the treating physician, to ensure that the health condition is maintained and that any potential complications are avoided.
