Port Said celebrates its 69th National Day
The features of the celebration began at the dawn of the morning of Victory Day, when the Major General laid the foundations of the Moheb Habashi war. Governor of Port SaidA wreath of flowers was placed on the monument to the Unknown Soldier in Martyrs’ Square, in the presence of military, security and executive leaders, in a solemn scene during which military music played the martyr’s peace, and Egyptian flags were raised in the hands of school students and youth, in a moment in which feelings of pride were mixed with loyalty to the sacrifices of the heroes of Port Said.
The activities extended to a major celebration organized by the Directorates of Education and Culture, where the governor witnessed artistic performances and a national choir presented by school students. He expressed the spirit of belonging and pride in the nation’s history, stressing during his speech that Victory Day will remain an immortal national epic that embodies the strength of the Egyptian will, and that educational and cultural institutions play a pivotal role in building the awareness of new generations and consolidating the values of loyalty and belonging.
In terms of public scenes, the governorate revived the military and artistic parade queue in front of the governorate’s general office after an absence of years, in a move that was widely welcomed by the people of Port Said, where formations of security forces, artistic and youth teams, university students, and neighborhood cars decorated with flags, participated in patriotic paintings that reflected the unity of the ranks and the cohesion of state institutions, amid a heavy public presence that brought to mind the atmosphere of the city’s historical celebrations.
The celebrations were not limited to a symbolic nature only, but rather coincided with field tours that carried clear messages that development goes hand in hand with the celebration of history, as the Governor of Port Said, accompanied by a number of national leaders, inspected the implementation rates of the project to establish the Egyptian Club Stadium, to follow up on the construction work and final finishes, stressing that the new stadium will be a sporting edifice befitting the history of the club and its fans, and a civilized interface for the governorate.
The celebrations also witnessed an inspection of the development work of the first phase of the Port Said Corniche, the largest waterfront development project in more than twenty years, with the aim of restoring the Corniche to its position as a tourist and cultural outlet, through modern designs, modern lighting, pedestrian and running paths, and recreational areas that serve citizens and visitors.
The activities included the opening of the model for the development of Al-Hamidi and Commercial Streets, within the framework of the plan to revive the city’s commercial heart and preserve its heritage character, in addition to the opening of the development works of Gamal Abdel Nasser Park in the Suburbs neighborhood, as part of the plan to increase green areas and create cultural outlets that serve various neighborhoods.
In a social and humanitarian message, the governor inspected the start of work on the project to construct 111 residential buildings in the Emirati neighborhood, in fulfillment of a previous promise, and in confirmation that the housing file is at the forefront of the governorate’s priorities, in parallel with following up on the development work of the area surrounding the new Port Fouad Court, to improve the cultural appearance and traffic flow in the city.
The celebrations culminated in an expanded conference to review the harvest of achievements and future development plans, during which the Governor of Port Said reviewed what has been achieved on the ground in the sectors of tourism, infrastructure, transportation, digital transformation, and urban development, stressing that East Port Said represents the locomotive of development and a major axis for attracting investments, and that the goal is to build a tourist and development city worthy of its history and status.
The celebrations concluded with a major public celebration in Egypt Square on the banks of the Suez Canal, in the presence of a number of governors and state leaders, where the masses interacted with the artistic and patriotic performances that embodied the honorable history of Port Said, in an atmosphere that confirmed that Victory Day is not just a memory, but a renewed national state that reflects the spirit of steadfastness, work, and hope for a better future.
