Today marks the anniversary of the Egyptian artist’s death Sami Sarhan One of the most prominent actors in the second roles in the history of Egyptian art, who was able to leave a clear impact on the hearts of the audience despite his distance from absolute starring roles. With his passing on February 16, 2008, the artistic scene lost an artist who was characterized by honesty, simplicity, and professional commitment over more than four decades.
Who is Sami Sarhan?
Sami Sarhan was born on December 25, 1930 in Damietta Governorate, and grew up in a popular environment close to the people, which was later reflected in the nature of the roles he played. He is the younger brother of the great artist Shukri Sarhan, one of the stars of the golden age of Egyptian cinema. However, Sami was keen to have his own mark away from comparisons, so he chose the path of supporting roles that need an actor aware of the details of the character and able to leave an impact without noise.
He graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, and his academic studies were a real starting point towards professionalism, as he began his career in the sixties of the last century, and participated in a large number of films that varied between social, comedic, and dramatic.

Sami Sarhan’s works
He embodied the characters of a simple employee, a loyal friend, and a popular, easy-going man. His presence was an important addition to any work he participated in, even if his picture did not appear on the poster.

Sami Sarhan was known among his colleagues for his commitment and discipline, and he shied away from causing controversy or seeking the spotlight, believing that the artist’s true value lies in his artistic giving, not in his media presence. Although he did not strive for heroism, many critics and audiences believe that the roles he presented were a fundamental pillar in the success of many works, and that he represented a model of the artist who serves the work faithfully, regardless of the scope of his role.
