Kamal Hussein was born on September 10, 1927, and was one of the first batches to join the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Egypt since its inception, where he graduated in 1947, which paved the way for him to enter strongly into the world of acting and artistic creativity.

Hussein began his artistic career on Egyptian radio in the early 1950s, where he participated in several radio works before moving to theatre. He was performing secondary roles at first, which helped him hone his artistic talent and deal with different types of characters on stage.
