The National Council for Women commented on the incident of Our Lady of Alexandria, stressing that the life of every woman in Egypt is precious, and she should not be left alone in the face of crises.

The incident of Our Lady of Alexandria

The National Committee for Women added in a press statement: We note, with great sadness, the incident of the loss of a young woman who was exhausted by psychological pressures, in a story that hurts us all, and pushes us to emphasize an undisputed truth, which is that the life of every woman in Egypt is precious, and she should not be left alone in the face of crises.

He added: The challenges that some women go through, especially in cases of separation or exposure to psychological or economic pressures, impose on all of us the responsibility to take action, not only with sympathy, but by activating the protection and support tools already available, and we confirm that there is an existing and ongoing support system that provides integrated services to every woman who needs support, which includes:

First: The short line (15115)

A hotline that operates to receive complaints and inquiries from women, provide guidance and initial support, and direct cases immediately to the competent authorities. This number is your first door to requesting assistance.

Second: The Women’s Complaints Office: It provides free legal, psychological, and social support, and follows up on complaints seriously and in complete confidentiality, with immediate intervention in cases that require urgent protection, especially in cases of alimony, domestic violence, and family disputes.

Third: Empowerment and skills development programs: Because economic independence is the basis of security, the Council implements multiple programs to raise women’s skills, and provide training opportunities and develop their skills for compatibility and the labor market in a way that helps them build a stable and safe life for themselves and their families.

He continued: We believe that women must always be surrounded by four true circles of safety: a fair law that protects their rights, economic support that guarantees their dignity, psychological support that contains them, and a national institution that stands by them in times of need.

The Council concluded: These circles are not slogans, but rather services that are actually available through the National Council for Women, with the participation of all state institutions, and they must reach every woman in Egypt, and our message to every woman in distress: Do not be silent, do not bear the pain alone, call 15115, and you will find someone who will listen to you, support you, and help you through the crisis. At the same time, the Council stresses the importance of continuing to develop policies and legislation, especially with regard to speedy enforcement of alimony, and strengthening psychological support services, to ensure that no woman will reach a moment’s notice. She loses hope. May God have mercy on the deceased, and make her story the beginning of greater awareness and faster access to every service that can save a life.
