French club Marseille announced the appointment of Habib Bey as the new coach of the first team, succeeding Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, who was dismissed due to poor results.

The club statement said: “Olympique Marseille is pleased to announce the appointment of Habib Bey as the new coach of the professional team. He has built a unique career in French football, first as a committed and professional player, then as an ambitious and thoughtful coach.”

The statement added that Habib Bey began his professional career in the late 1990s with the Strasbourg club as a reliable right-back, before moving to Marseille in 2003, where he became an example of fighting spirit and defensive discipline, and graduated until he wore the team’s captaincy, confirming his great importance within the club.

His appointment comes in light of Marseille’s current position in the French League, where the team occupies fourth place with 40 points, 12 points behind leader Lens, who has 52 points, which puts Bey in front of a difficult task to restore the team to the competition at the top.
