Launching the first integrated scientific model to confront stray dogs in Sadat City across 4 regions

The signing of the protocol was sponsored by Engineer Muhammad Adel Anwar, Head of the City Development Authority SadatWith the participation of Dr. Nasser Abdel Bari, President of Sadat City University, within the framework of expanded cooperation between the city authority and a number of executive, scientific and community bodies.

The protocol brings together 4 main bodies representing the active parties in implementing the initiative, which are the Board of Trustees of Sadat City, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Sadat City University, and the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Menoufia Governorate, along with representatives of civil society in the city, in an attempt to present a civilized model to address one of the most prominent environmental and societal files.

The project relies on an internationally recognized scientific strategy known as TNVR, an abbreviation for the Catch – Neuter – Vaccinate – Return methodology, which involves capturing stray dogs, surgically sterilizing them, and then vaccinating them against rabies before returning them to their natural habitat.

This mechanism aims to limit the random breeding of stray dogs and prevent an uncontrolled increase in their numbers, in addition to ensuring a safe environment free of diseases common to humans and animals, while at the same time preserving the environmental balance within the city.

Engineer Mohamed Adel Anwar stressed that Sadat City seeks to provide a role model in managing societal and environmental issues through modern scientific solutions, noting that the primary goal is to achieve the security and safety of citizens, taking into account the humanitarian and environmental aspects in dealing with animals.

He explained that cooperation with Sadat City University, represented by the College of Veterinary Medicine, represents a pivotal element in the success of the initiative, as the College is responsible for the technical and scientific aspects, including the implementation of surgical sterilization operations and medical supervision of the various implementation stages.

The city’s Board of Trustees and civil society organizations are scheduled to participate in providing logistical and material support to ensure the continuity of the project and cover the various neighborhoods of the city, while the City Development Authority will undertake field coordination and provide equipped sites for temporary shelter operations and recovery periods after sterilization.

It is expected that this protocol will contribute to gradually reducing the number of stray dogs in a scientific, sustainable manner, thus enhancing the quality of life within Sadat City and placing it among the cities that apply modern environmental models in managing the balance between humans and nature.
