After the end of the holy month of Ramadan 2026, a large number of people want to continue performing Night prayer Many people wonder whether it is permissible to perform congregational prayers in voluntary prayers, or is it considered an innovation and not permissible to perform them, as some people think that the night prayers should not be performed in a group after the end of the month of Ramadan, and in the following lines we learn about the Sharia opinion that the Egyptian Fatwa House saw regarding performing the night prayers in a group.

What is the ruling on praying the night prayer in congregation after Ramadan?

For its part, Dar Al-Iftaa said that the call to pray the night prayer in a group is not an innovation, noting that the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, prayed with him during times other than Ramadan, one or two companions who were present at the time of prayer by chance or entered with him in it, and he did not call them to it, an incorrect statement.

Dar Al-Iftaa added, in a fatwa on its official website, that it has been proven from the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, that he performed voluntary prayers in a group. Like praying at night; When he went out in Ramadan, he prayed and the Companions prayed behind him, and he came on the second night and prayed and a larger crowd prayed behind him.

The fatwa continued that on the third night, the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, concealed himself from them and did not go out to them. When our master, the Messenger of God, was asked about that, he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: “I feared that it would be imposed on you.”

What is the advantage of congregational prayer?

Regarding the virtue of congregational prayer, the fatwa said that congregational prayer is superior to the individual prayer by twenty-seven degrees. Because of what he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said in the hadith of Abdullah bin Omar, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: “Congregational prayer is superior to individual prayer by twenty-seven degrees.” Narrated by him, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family. Imam Malik, and it is agreed upon, and other noble hadiths.

How to pray the night prayer

The Prophet used to pray at night and begin prayer shortly before or after midnight. It was reported on the authority of Ibn Masoud that he asked Aisha, may God be pleased with her: (Which work was most beloved to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him? She said: Perpetual. He said: I said: What time did he get up? She said: He used to get up when he heard someone shouting) and he used to get up if he heard someone shouting, which was hearing the sound of a rooster in the second half of the night.

The Prophet used to pray two rak’ahs at night and conclude with one rak’ah prayer, which was the Witr prayer. The Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not exceed 11 rak’ahs in his prayers during Ramadan or at any other time.

The Prophet used to pray during the night until his feet cracked. On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, she said: (The Prophet of God – may God bless him and grant him peace – used to pray during the night until his feet cracked, so Aisha said: Why? Are you doing this, O Messenger of God, and God has forgiven you for your past and future sins? He said: Would I not like to be a grateful servant? His meat increased and he prayed sitting, so if he wanted to bow, he stood up, recited, then bowed.)

The virtue of praying the night prayer

The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, also guided us to the virtue of frequent prostration. On the authority of Maadan bin Abi Talha Al-Yamari, he said: I met Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, and I said: Tell me something I should do that will allow me to enter Paradise? Or he said, I said: I do the most beloved deeds to God, but he remained silent. Then I asked him and he remained silent. Then I asked him the third time, and he said: I asked the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, about that, and he said: “You must prostrate a lot to God, for if you do not prostrate to God a prostration, God will raise you one degree thereby and lower your rank.” It is a sin.” Narrated by Muslim.

Based on what was mentioned in the previous hadiths about the virtue of standing for long periods of time for reading, as well as the virtue of prostrating frequently and increasing the number of rak’ahs, a disagreement occurred between the jurists as to which of them is better and more rewarding? The reason for their disagreement is conflicting evidence.

Supplication for the night prayer

It was reported on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, that he said: “When the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, got up at night, reciting Hajj, he would say: “O God, praise be to You.” You are the valuer of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and praise be to You. You are the light of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and all praise is to You, You are the King of the heavens and the earth. And whoever is among them, praise be to You, You are the Truth, and Your promise is true.”

“Meeting you is true, and your words are true, and Paradise is true, and Hell is true, and the prophets are true, and Muhammad is true, and the Hour is true. Oh God, you are true. I have submitted, and in you I have believed, and in you I have put my trust, and to you I turn, and by you I have disputed, and to you I have judged, so forgive me for what I have put forward and what I have delayed, and for what I have pleased. And what I have announced, and what you know better than me, you are the advance, and you are the latter, there is no god but you, and there is no god but you.
