Investigative authorities in Suez began investigating a report filed by a woman accusing an obstetrician and gynecologist of committing a serious medical error while performing a cesarean section on her in a private hospital, which resulted in her being exposed to serious complications and permanent disability.
An obstetrician-gynecologist was accused of causing a permanent disability to a woman in Suez
The report included that the woman had been following up on her pregnancy with the doctor against whom she was accused since its beginning, and based on his directions, a date was set for a caesarean section. During the procedure, she suffered severe bleeding and a complete loss of consciousness, before she was later taken out without informing her or her family of the details of what happened inside the operating room.
The report explained that the patient’s health condition deteriorated significantly after her discharge, as she experienced severe fatigue and repeated bleeding, which required her later to be transferred to the Suez Medical Complex, where medical examinations revealed a severed blood vessel and a ruptured bladder, in addition to the removal of the uterus and ovaries, which required urgent surgical intervention and the transfer of large amounts of blood and plasma to save her life.
The report stated that the patient underwent a series of careful medical examinations within the medical complex, and reports issued by a number of consultants confirmed that what happened represented negligence and a serious medical error, and that the surgical interventions that were performed were not appropriate to the condition, and resulted in her permanently losing her ability to reproduce.
He added that the patient’s health condition remained unstable for a period, and she was detained in medical care for several days under observation, noting that the seriousness of the bleeding would have directly threatened her life had it not been for the prompt medical intervention.
A source told Cairo 24 that the investigating authorities have begun examining the official medical reports in preparation for hearing the complainant’s statements, summoning the doctor against whom the complaint is made, and taking the necessary legal measures if it is proven that there is negligence or a violation of recognized medical procedures.
