We present an interpretation of Surat Al-Muddathir, as it is one of the Meccan surahs with 56 verses. Its revelation was linked to the beginning of the public commission of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, to preach. The Surah came to announce the transition from the stage of spiritual preparation in the Cave of Hira to the stage of warning and invitation, carrying clear orders for the Messenger to carry out his message. The Surah is distinguished by the strength of its speech, the clarity of its message, and its close connection to the events of the beginning of the revelation.
Interpretation of Surat Al-Muddaththir
Regarding the interpretation of Surat Al-Muddaththir, it was named “Al-Muddaththir”; Because the divine speech in it was directed directly to the Prophet while he was wrapped in his garment after seeing Gabriel, so the call was identical to his condition: “O you who cover up.” It expresses the decisive moment in which the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, moved from a state of seclusion and contemplation to the stage of assignment and warning.
Surah Al-Muddaththir focuses on the first aspects of the Prophet’s message, may God bless him and grant him peace, and sheds light on his explicit mandate to warn and call for the monotheism of God Almighty.

The surah also presents the position of the polytheists in Mecca regarding the new call, reveals the methods of the deniers and clarifies their punishment, as the surah also emphasizes the greatness of the Qur’an and its role in guiding man, with a severe warning to those who turn away from the message.
In the authentic hadith, Jabir bin Abdullah narrates a narration documenting the first moments of the revelation of the Surah, where he said: The Prophet had lived in Hira for a month, and when he finished his seclusion and descended into the valley, he heard a call from heaven. He looked around but did not see anyone. Then he was called again, and he raised his head and found Gabriel on the horizon. He was terrified and said: Cover me, cover me. So his family poured cold water on him, and the words of God Almighty were revealed: “O Al-Muddaththir, “Arise and warn your Lord, so enlarge your clothes and purify them.”

Interpretation of Surat Al-Muddaththir for children
Regarding the interpretation of Surat Al-Muddaththir for children, the teacher or guardian can explain to the child the meaning of the word Al-Muddaththir, which means “the one who wraps himself in his garment.” Because God called the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, while he was covering himself at that time.
This Surah came as an order from God Almighty to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, to stand up and begin conveying his message, and this teaches us that we must be brave in speaking the truth and working in a way that pleases God.
The surah also warns against lies and injustice and shows that everyone who does good will be rewarded by God, and whoever does evil will hold him accountable. The reason for the revelation of the surah goes back to the Prophet’s seclusion in the Cave of Hira, where the angel Gabriel came to him and God commanded him to begin his call, so the verses were revealed to say to him: “Arise and warn your Lord, and be proud, and your clothes and purify yourself.” That is, get up and begin conveying the message to the people, remember your Lord, and be pure.
