On the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, with Mr. Abdel Salam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the depth of Egyptian-Somali relations and the mutual keenness to develop bilateral relations, especially in the economic, development and investment fields, stressing the importance of continuing to strengthen the strategic partnership and cooperation and enhancing trade relations between the two countries in a way that achieves their mutual benefit, especially with the imminent opening of the Bank of Egypt in Somalia, which will have an important impact in facilitating commercial transactions between Egypt and Somalia.

Minister Abdel-Aty stressed Egypt’s full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia as a fundamental pillar for the stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, stressing Egypt’s complete rejection and condemnation of any unilateral measures or attempts to impose parallel entities or create a new political reality outside internationally recognized legal frameworks, reviewing the Egyptian moves aimed at supporting brotherly Somalia, which led to the issuance of a cross-regional statement by 23 countries and two international organizations and the holding of a ministerial session of the Peace and Security Council, Emphasizing the importance of continuing coordination and collective action to affirm the unity and sovereignty of Somalia.

In the same context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed Egypt’s commitment to continuing to provide support for building Somali institutions and efforts to establish security and stability, especially with regard to combating terrorism and extremism, stressing the need for concerted regional and international efforts to confront terrorist attacks and eradicate the roots of terrorism.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also affirmed Egypt’s support for the efforts aimed at enhancing security, stability and achieving development in Somalia, stressing the importance of continuing efforts with international partners in order to mobilize sufficient and sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia so that it can perform its tasks to the fullest extent.
