Social media users circulated a video clip showing Fathi Qandil, a member of the House of Representatives known as the “Deputy of the Poor,” refusing to shake hands with one of the well-wishers while receiving congratulations, after his victory in the first round of the House of Representatives elections in the third district of Nag Hammadi, Qena Governorate, which sparked a state of controversy among followers.

After the video spread, Fathi Qandil published another clip in which he explained the circumstances of the incident, stressing that the reason for his refusal to shake hands was due to his contracting a cold, and his concern not to transmit the infection to anyone.
Qandil pointed out that the person who appeared in the video was his cousin and one of his neighbors, stressing that there was no dispute or offense, and offering his apologies for any misunderstanding resulting from the situation.
