My whole life is here, and I will not return without my family.. These are the statements of an Egyptian student named Jumana Gad who lives in Sweden, in response to what the Immigration Service announced. Swedish During the past few hours, the 18-year-old student was deported to Egypt, which caused widespread shock among her surroundings and her family, as she has been living in Sweden since she was four years old.
An Egyptian student faces deportation from Sweden before she graduates, despite her family’s permanent residency
According to what was published by the newspaper ESwedish Expressen it While her classmates at Psychology High School plan to celebrate graduation next June 11 and begin preparing for the ceremony, Jumana faces a completely different reality. “I started looking for colleges and universities and the like, but I don’t know how things will turn out,” she said.
The deportation decision was issued during the past few days, and she is scheduled to leave the country within a month. Jumana described her feeling of shock when she learned of the decision, saying: I could not think about it for a few days, but it gradually began to affect me.

Jomana arrived in Sweden with her family as a child, keeping kindergarten files, and over the years, her family’s applications for residence permits were rejected several times, despite their attempt to take advantage of redirection, an option later abolished that allowed those whose asylum application had been rejected to apply for residency through work.
In 2021, Jumana and her parents obtained temporary residence permits, while her father and mother became permanent residents in 2025, and her younger brother Christopher holds Swedish citizenship, but the Migration Agency rejected Jumana’s application, confirming that as of her reaching the age of majority, she can be expected to live life independently from her father, despite acknowledging her close relationship with her family.

Jumana’s father expressed his deep sadness, saying: When I received the decision regarding Jumana, I could not sleep, it hurts my heart… My children are the heart, and Jumana expressed the difficulty of imagining her life in Egypt alone, stressing: This is truly unreasonable… My whole life is here, I cannot return without my family, and she added: I support the deportation of criminals, but this decision affects the wrong people.

In an attempt to support her case, her schoolmates started a petition, and the issue also caught the attention of the Swedish Parliament, where Jumana met with representatives of the V, MP and C parties. Representative Annika Hirvonen pointed out that the Migration Board applied the current law, but it is a very strong law, stressing that the case sparked widespread controversy about the fairness of its application.
