Sheikh Awaida Othman, Secretary of Fatwa at the Egyptian Fatwa House, said that giving thanks for blessings is obligatory for every Muslim, citing the words of our master Sufyan bin Saeed Al-Thawri, one of Imam Ahmed’s peers and the owner of the doctrine, where he said: “O Sufyan, if you are in a blessing and you want your Lord to perpetuate it for you, then give thanks for it,” stressing that the month of Ramadan is a great opportunity to thank God for His blessings through moderation and not extravagance.

How do we thank God for God’s blessings in Ramadan and avoid extravagance? The Fatwa Secretary answers

The Fatwa Secretary explained, during television statements, that extravagance in food is forbidden, and extravagance is even more forbidden, referring to the Almighty’s saying: “God does not like the extravagant,” and that the wasteful are described as brothers of the devils, pointing out that gratitude for blessings should be done in moderation in everything, whether in food or the provision that God has bestowed upon us.

Sheikh Awaida Othman added that generosity, friendliness, mercy, and moderation in the holy month are among the most important virtues, and extravagance or extravagance is not required in preparing food. Even simple foods such as beans, watercress, and a sweet morsel are sufficient to complete gratitude for the blessings, stressing that the goal is to make good use of what God has blessed us with without exaggeration or waste.

The Fatwa Secretary pointed out that extravagance is not limited to money or food only, but rather includes excessive joy, excessive sadness, and excessive emotion, adding that the most important type of extravagance is wasting time, especially in preparing food, as part of it may be wasted or thrown away without benefit, and this is considered a waste of grace.

He prayed that God would grant everyone success in using Ramadan time wisely and with gratitude for the blessings, wishing everyone continued health and blessings.
