Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra’s son told Cairo 24: My father has not worked since 2020 and has had operations, and he is in a state of disrepair and his health is very bad. His pension is 14 thousand pounds, and he already spends 60 thousand pounds per month on treatment.
He continued: This is not the first time he has been exposed to something like this. In 3 years, they were demanding that he pay taxes while he was not working at all, and when I went and spoke, they told me to prove that he was not working.

For his part, the artist’s son, Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra, had previously announced the cessation of payment of his father’s pension. He said in a post on his personal Facebook account that these measures come at a time when his father needs care and calm after an artistic career that has extended for more than sixty years in the service of art and the nation, stressing that Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra has never asked for anything from any party, and all he wants is to spend his last days in peace of mind.
The artist’s son added that the pension that was withheld is not enough to cover even a small part of the costs of the medications his father needs, calling on officials to take into account the artist’s humanitarian condition and be compassionate for what he provided throughout his life for art and society.
