Counselor Marianne Kaldas, member of the National Council for Women, said that Egyptian women have made great gains in recent years as everyone has witnessed, stressing that empowering women is no longer a social issue or a slogan for equality, but rather has become a development and economic necessity and a direct investment in sustainable growth.

National Council for Women: Empowering women is a direct investment in economic growth

Qaldas explained, during a television intervention, that the evidence for women’s empowerment is based on three main axes, the first of which is legislative and regulatory reform, noting that the new Labor Law No. 14 of 2025 provided unprecedented guarantees for women, including the prohibition of discrimination in hiring, promotion, and wages, and the prohibition of harassment and bullying, in a way that guarantees a safe work environment.

She added that the law approved the concept of the care economy by requiring establishments with 100 female workers to provide a nursery, which helps women reconcile family and work responsibilities, in addition to introducing flexible work patterns such as remote work, part-time work, and job sharing, which are models that allow women to continue in the labor market without interrupting it.

Regarding the education and qualification axis, Qaldas stressed that the state has linked education to the needs of the labor market, with a focus on developing digital, technological and leadership skills, within the framework of the National Strategy for Women’s Empowerment 2030, noting that Egypt is one of the first countries to adopt an integrated strategy for women’s empowerment.

The National Member for Women explained that raising women’s participation rates in the labor market is directly reflected in increasing the gross domestic product and improving productivity, pointing out that studies indicate that women’s participation contributes to raising the efficiency of using human resources by up to 34%.
