The General Authority of Red Sea Ports announced that it has raised the level of maximum preparedness in all its six ports in the governorates of Suez, the Red Sea, and South Sinai, while taking all necessary precautionary measures, in light of the warnings of the General Meteorological Authority, regarding the state of air instability that the country is witnessing, and the port areas overlooking the Red Sea and the Gulf of Suez and Aqaba being affected by the chances of rain that may reach the point of torrential rain at intermittent intervals.
The weather condition is witnessing noticeable wind activity, ranging in speed between 40 and 50 km/h, which may affect maritime navigation and lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility, especially in open areas, in addition to the possibility of the formation of thunderclouds accompanied by strong downward winds, lightning, and hail.
In this context, Major General Engineer Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Authority, issued strict instructions to port managers on the necessity of fully adhering to preventive measures, ensuring the readiness and safety of navigational signs at the entrances and exits of ports, with real-time monitoring of weather fluctuations in coordination with the Meteorological Authority, as well as activating operations rooms in all ports to deal immediately with any emergency, in a way that ensures the regularity of maritime navigation movement and the security of lives and property.
In terms of trading activity, the Authority’s media center announced the circulation of about 13,000 tons of general and miscellaneous goods, in addition to 658 trucks and 53 cars, with imports recording 3,000 tons of goods, 268 trucks, and 37 cars, while exports amounted to 10,000 tons of goods, 390 trucks, and 16 cars, with 10 ships present on the port berths.
The port of Safaga witnessed the reception of the ship “PAN LILY,” and the departure of four ships, namely, “Freedom 1,” “PELAGOS Express,” “PAN LILY,” and “Alcudia Express,” while the port of Nuweiba recorded the circulation of 3,635 tons of goods and 245 trucks, via shuttle trips of three ships, “Al-Hussein,” “Ayla,” and “Sina.” The total number of passengers visiting the authority’s ports reached 1,823.
