The topic of the hour is the topic of the current crisis and war in the region. We in Egypt have tried, through sincere efforts over the past months, to avoid the crisis with the aim of bringing viewpoints closer and mediating between the United States and Iran to reach an agreement, because wars always have a negative impact on the countries in which the war is taking place or their neighboring countries, especially with the development of means of combat. Our effort was sincere and enlightened, and that wrong assessments result in negative repercussions on countries. The repercussions of wars have a major impact on the balance, in one way or another, not only because of the humanitarian dimension. And other dimensions, and I imagine that there must be a very great expectation that the war will have repercussions on countries, and the impact that this will have on the stability of the region. In two days, very large and rapid developments occurred, and in Egypt we were keen to stress the importance of non-escalation, achieving calm, and even stopping the war, even though I doubted that this would be achieved.

The president has done so Abdel Fattah El-SisiA telephone call to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, said that the call dealt with developments in the military escalation in the region, where the President expressed his condemnation of the targeting of the Omani port of Duqm today. He also stressed Egypt’s firm position calling for the primacy of dialogue and peaceful means to settle regional crises, warning of the dangerous repercussions that may result from the region sliding into a state of chaos as a result of this escalation.

He also appreciated the important role played by the Sultanate of Oman in mediating and facilitating negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear file.
