In preparation for the activities of the second international symposium of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Houses and Bodies in the World under the title: “Fatwas and Issues of Human Reality: Towards Rational Ijtihad that Keeps pace with Contemporary Challenges,” His Eminence Professor Dr. Nazir Ayyad, Mufti of the Republic and Head of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Boards and Fatwa Bodies in the World, affirmed that the fatwa is no longer just an answer to a legal question, but rather has become a living cognitive and organizational system that interacts with the changing reality and links the legal texts. And the requirements of the times, in a way that contributes to enhancing social security and preserving human dignity.

Mufti: Confronting poverty is at the top of the issues of the Second International Symposium of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Houses and Bodies

His Eminence the Mufti pointed out that confronting poverty and alleviating the suffering of the most needy groups are at the top of the issues that will be discussed at the international symposium scheduled to be held on Monday and Tuesday, December 15-16, 2025 in Cairo, in order to determine the extent to which fatwas contribute to activating zakat and endowment institutions to combat poverty, and transforming charitable work into a humanitarian investment by supporting small projects.

His Eminence emphasized that the fatwa played a pivotal role in directing financial acts of worship, such as zakat, alms, endowments, expiations, and vows, towards shifting from temporary aid to sustainable economic empowerment, by investing devotion funds in the fields of education and rehabilitation, in a way that enhances the independence of the poor and moves them from the cycle of need to sufficiency and support.

Regarding the files that will be discussed in the symposium, the Mufti of the Republic drew attention to the fact that they are not limited to discussing economic issues, but rather extend to contemporary health issues that represent one of the major arenas of diligence, most notably the issues of vaccinations and vaccinations, organ transplantation, gene therapy, the limits of the use of artificial intelligence in the medical field, cosmetic medicine of all kinds, and all emerging medical calamities that require sober collective diligence.

In this context, His Eminence stressed that the fatwa embodies a link between the objectives of Sharia law in self-preservation and the data of modern science, which opens the doors of facilitation for patients, enhances cooperation between Sharia scholars and doctors, and contributes to confronting rumors that threaten public health.

The Mufti of the Republic stressed that a disciplined fatwa represents an essential pillar in building awareness and protecting societies from intellectual chaos and the wrong use of religion, stressing that the symposium aims to produce clear scientific and applied outcomes, including fatwa guides and professional charters that contribute to developing the fatwa discourse and enhancing its humanitarian impact in contemporary reality.

Finally, His Eminence the Mufti of the Republic explained that the Egyptian Fatwa House seeks, through this symposium, to consolidate the institutional rational jurisprudence approach, and to strengthen cooperation frameworks between fatwa, scientific, and research institutions at the regional and international levels, in a way that ensures the issuance of disciplined fatwas that take into account outcomes, preserve human dignity, support societal stability, and enhance intellectual security.

It is worth noting that this symposium comes within a series of scientific and intellectual events and activities organized by the Egyptian Fatwa House, within the framework of its keenness to strengthen channels of communication and dialogue, and to consolidate the role of institutional fatwa in addressing issues of contemporary reality, the most prominent of which was recently the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Egyptian Fatwa House, which embodied an extended history of scientific giving, moderation, and commitment to the issues of the homeland and humanity, and confirmed the pivotal role of the House in serving society and promoting rational religious awareness. Internally, regionally and internationally.
