China’s market regulator said it will immediately recall 88,981 BYD plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a potential safety risk related to the battery, according to Reuters.

The authority stated that the affected Qin PLUS DM-i models were produced between January 2021 and September 2023, and may have limited power production capacity due to battery problems.
The market regulator said that in extreme cases, owners of defective cars will not be able to drive in purely electric mode.
The company called BYDfacing declining sales and profits, has so far sold more than 210,000 vehicles this year, including nearly 7,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs.
In mid-October, BYD announced its largest recall yet of more than 115,000 Tang and Yuan Pro vehicles produced between 2015 and 2022 due to design flaws and safety risks related to the battery.
