The dollar recorded at the Central Bank about 47.09 pounds for purchase and 47.22 pounds for sale, while its levels in the three major banks reached 47.12 pounds for purchase and 47.22 pounds for sale, which reflects a state of price balance in the exchange market at the beginning of this year and provides a clear vision for investors and dealers in the financial markets.
In a related context, the European euro recorded at the Central Bank of Egypt 54.98 pounds for purchase and 55.15 pounds for sale, while the major banks offered a unified price of 54.76 pounds for purchase and 55.22 pounds for sale. As for the pound sterling, it maintained its levels above the barrier of 63 pounds, recorded in the Central Bank at 63.37 pounds for purchase and 63.56 pounds for sale, while its prices in the banking sector ranged between 63.10 pounds for purchase and 63.62 pounds for sale, which enhances the stability of import costs from European markets during this period of the year.
Arab currency exchange
In terms of Arab currencies, the Kuwaiti dinar recorded the highest exchange rates in the local market, reaching 154.02 pounds at the Central Bank for purchase and 154.39 pounds for sale. The dinar purchase prices varied in other banks to offer various options to customers, as the National Bank recorded 151.83 pounds for purchase, while the selling price stabilized at 154.44 pounds. This slight discrepancy at the beginning of 2026 reflects the flexibility of the Egyptian banking sector in dealing with Arab cash flows and meeting the needs of travelers and investors in the Gulf region.
As for the Saudi riyal and the Emirati dirham, they witnessed stability at balanced levels at the beginning of this week, as the Saudi riyal recorded in the Central Bank at 12.55 pounds for purchase and 12.59 pounds for sale, while it stabilized in the major banks at 12.52 pounds for purchase and 12.59 pounds for sale. On the other hand, the UAE dirham recorded 12.82 pounds for purchase and 12.85 pounds for sale at the Central Bank, with the selling price stable at 12.86 pounds at the banks of Egypt, Al-Ahly and CIB.
