The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Referees Committee chose an Egyptian refereeing crew to officiate the Ethiopian national team’s match against its counterpart, the Sao Tome and Principe national team, in the 2027 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The crew includes: international referee Mohamed Maarouf, referee, and is assisted by: Samir Gamal, first assistant, Ahmed Tawfiq Talab, second assistant, while Mahmoud Bassiouni assumes the task of fourth referee.

The match is scheduled to be held on March 31 at eight o’clock in the evening, Cairo time.

<p>Earlier, the Egyptian Football Association received a letter from FIFA stating the decision of the Main Referees Committee, headed by Pierluigi Collina, to prevent all referees nominated to manage the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches from officiating any friendly matches for the World Cup teams during the international break in March.</p>
<p>In turn, the main referees committee of the Egyptian Football Association, headed by Oscar Ruiz, informed the two Egyptian referees, Amin Omar, the arena referee, and Mahmoud Ashour, the video technology referee, of the decision, which has already begun to be implemented.</p>
<p>Amin Omar and Mahmoud Ashour are among the list of referees nominated to participate in officiating the World Cup matches, in a new confirmation of the presence of Egyptian arbitration on the international scene.</p>
