Argentina announced, in a statement issued by the presidential office yesterday, Tuesday, that it has classified the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, in response to pressure from the Trump administration on its allies.

Argentina attributed this action to the support of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard for Hezbollah based in southern Lebanon, which Argentina accuses of carrying out the deadliest bombing in its history, the attack that targeted the AMIA Jewish Center in Buenos Aires in 1994, killing 85 people and wounding hundreds, according to what was reported by Reuters news agency.

The Argentine presidential office explained that this measure allows for the imposition of financial sanctions and other operational restrictions.

Both the IRGC and Hezbollah are already classified as terrorist groups by the United States and some other countries.

Days earlier, the Argentine government also designated Mexico’s Jalisco New Generation Cartel a terrorist organization, further strengthening the rapprochement of President Javier Milley’s government with Washington.
