A fire broke out in a large factory within the industrial zone of the city of Abadan in Khuzestan Province, southern Iran, causing thick columns of smoke to rise that were seen from various areas in the city, according to media reports.
Local reports said that the smoke was thick enough to be seen from the neighboring city of Khorramshahr, which alarmed residents and prompted firefighting teams to immediately head to the fire site.
The causes of the fire or the extent of the losses
No official information has yet been released about the causes of the fire or the extent of the material and human losses, while civil defense teams’ efforts continue to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring factories.
The industrial zone in Abadan includes a number of production facilities, including factories for the production of raw materials used in the manufacture of sanding and abrasive tools. Facilities specialized in the production of silicon carbide and aluminum oxide, which are basic materials in the sanding industry, are also active in Khuzestan Province.
