Ways to reduce the risks of fesikh and herring in Sham El-Nessim

Dr. Bahaa Nagy, a therapeutic nutrition consultant, said in special statements to Cairo 24 that when choosing herring, you must ensure that there are no unpleasant odors coming from the fish, and as for feseekh fish, you must choose a fish that is highly salted to limit exposure to bacteria and the absence of the smell of mold, especially since the poisoning caused by feseekh is fatal.

Dr. Bahaa Naji, a therapeutic nutrition consultant, explained some preventive methods to reduce the health risks resulting from eating fesikh and herring, as it is recommended to drink a sufficient amount of barley water in the morning before eating salted fish and again in the middle of the day, in addition to drinking hibiscus to improve blood pressure levels, and eating anise to reduce exposure to intestinal upset, bloating, and high acidity.

Dr. Bahaa Naji continued that the presence of sodium in a high percentage in herring and fesikh requires eating foods containing a high percentage of potassium to equalize the percentage of sodium, such as bananas, apples, and some types of legumes such as lupine. It is advised to refrain from eating fesikh and herring at night, and to drink curd after eating salted fish to reduce acidity, and to stay away from carbonated water, because it increases the incidence of acidity, and to limit the intake of bread, to reduce the calories consumed, that is, an average of two loaves of local bread over the course of a year.
