The Ministry of Health and Population issued an awareness statement confirming that the largest percentage of citizens’ daily salt consumption comes from processed foods, noting that about 80% of the amount of salt that enters the body comes from ready-made and industrially processed products, while salt added during cooking represents only about 20% of the total consumption.

The Ministry stressed, according to the infographic published on its official platforms, that limiting the intake of processed foods is an essential step to protect the body from the health harms associated with excess salt, which include high blood pressure and increased risks of heart disease and strokes.
The Ministry of Health explained that the recommended daily amount of salt should not exceed 5 grams only, explaining that this amount includes salt used in cooking as well as salt added to food before eating it.
The Ministry confirmed the continuation of its awareness campaigns in cooperation with the World Health Organization, with the aim of promoting healthy dietary patterns and reducing dependence on highly salty products, as part of its efforts to prevent chronic diseases and improve the quality of life for citizens.
