At MWC, Ubiquiti Networks unveiled the new U7 Mesh modules supporting Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), which are designed to extend the range of wireless networks via mesh technology.

These units come as a successor to the U6 Mesh version, while maintaining coverage of up to 140 square metres, in addition to the ability to direct antennas in the 5 GHz band, which allows increasing the distances between network points, a feature that was not available in the previous generation.

In terms of performance, the data transfer speed in the 5 GHz band decreased from 4.8 to 4.3 Gbps as a result of the move to Wi-Fi 7, but the new units have become more efficient in dealing with a large number of devices thanks to reduced response time.

In contrast, this category does not support the 6 GHz band that was introduced with Wi-Fi 6E, as operation is limited to the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. It also supports 802.11k, 802.11r and 802.11v standards to improve seamless switching between connection points.

Operation requires the use of a PoE adapter or PoE hub, and the company provides a PoE adapter in the box. The units are also equipped with a 2.5GbE port to ensure faster network connection.

The company provides accessories that allow installation inside or outside buildings, with the possibility of choosing the installation method after purchase. To achieve the IPX6 protection standard, the use of a wall mount with rubber insulation is necessary, making U7 Mesh a suitable replacement for existing U7 Outdoor models.

The company explained that it has completely redesigned the units, with noticeable improvements in resistance to external factors and facilitating installation steps. U7 Mesh units are currently available for $199.
