PS5 Pro devices witnessed a large buying wave before the expected price increase was implemented, as users seek to secure the device at the current price before it rises.
Sony is raising the price of the PS5 Pro in the United States from $749.99 to $899.99 starting April 2, in one of the largest increases witnessed by the device, especially after a previous increase during the year 2025.
Reports indicated noticeable activity on forums such as Reddit, where users assert that the primary purchase motive was to avoid paying an additional $150, which led to a sudden spike in demand.
This increase is linked to higher manufacturing costs, especially with the memory chip crisis affecting several sectors, including gaming devices and computers. It is also believed that Sony is preparing with this step to increase the expected demand with the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.

The increases are not limited to the Pro version only, but also include the regular PS5 and the digital version, an increase of $100, in addition to the PlayStation Portal, an increase of $50.
With stock remaining available at current prices for a limited period, increased demand may lead to a temporary shortage in the markets before the new prices are implemented.
