As foldable phones become more popular, third-party apps, as well as system apps, are expected to optimize their experience for this type of screen. Therefore, Google is working to develop the camera experience for Pixel 9 Pro Fold users, through a new update that adds a feature that was previously exclusive to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

This feature allows the image preview to be displayed on the left half of the screen, while keeping the photography interface on the right half. This improvement is very practical, especially since it is considered a basic feature in many competing foldable phones, which makes Google’s delay in providing it remarkable.

Google adds a dedicated button below the capture button to activate this split view, and also provides an option to display all photos, not just photos taken during the current photo session. However, this option remains essentially a shortcut to access the Google Photos app.
