Blue Point Games, developer of the acclaimed Demon’s Souls remake for the PlayStation 5, will shut down in March. The move comes after a review of Sony’s internal workings and will result in the loss of 70 jobs.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that Sony has effectively shut down Blue Point Games Studios, about 5 years after fully acquiring it. Blue Point is known for bringing PlayStation 3-era Demon’s Souls to PlayStation 5. Its other endeavors include Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and God of War Collection. About 70 developers lost their jobs due to Sony’s recent business review.

Blue Point was recently developing a God of War game as a live service, but that project was shut down soon after. Sony’s decision to cancel the venerable studio is a puzzling one because there are a lot of older PlayStation titles that could benefit from a modern remastering, especially those from the PlayStation 3 era.

Blue Point’s closure effectively marks the end of hope for a Bloodborne remake, something fans have been clamoring for endlessly. Many have speculated that it will be a launch title for the PlayStation 6 like Demon’s Souls and PlayStation 5, but with Blue Point out of the picture, even that seems unlikely. However, studios like Iron Galaxy and Nexus can still do this.
